2025 Pelican State Titles
A really successful Pelican State Titles was held out of Geographe Bay Yacht Club in early January. It was well attended with 21 boats from around the state travelling to compete. GYC had 4 boats representing the club and it’s fair to say the members of GYC should be very proud of how they went. In a full range of conditions throughout the regatta it challenged all of the sailors and it showed in the results where there was a different winner of each race right through till the last day of competition making it almost anyone’s championship for the taking. In the end Xavier Putt from EFYC won the State Title.
Callum Mann and Aiden Weir took out first position on Consistency and were followed not far behind by James Mann and Luca Quelch in third. Leong Chan and his crew Koah performed well once they tuned their boat in for the conditions and took first place in race 5.
All GYC boats had moments of absolute brilliance throughout the regatta and other parts that they would probably much rather forget.
Freddie skippering in his first states and his crew of Annie learnt a huge amount from their experience and would be fair to say fully immersed themselves into the social side of things, which we all know is a very important part of a sailing regatta!!
To top it all off the Mann twins were the recipients of the prestigious Kevin Rose Award. This award goes to a sailor who may not have yet achieved great success but compete in the right spirit, help fellow competitors and contribute to the Pelican class amongst other things. Well done boys!
South of Perth YC will be holding next years states so juniors start planning for that now.
